Established in 2006 in Pune, Maharashtra, LAHI is a non-profit working at the intersection of education and livelihood to provide youth employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. LAHI works on integrating vocational education with mainstream education at secondary and higher secondary levels to make secondary education more meaningful for sustainable livelihoods. LAHI focuses on vocational training for adolescents and young people across 22 states in India.
The recent change in NEP 2022, which mandates vocational training mandatory until Class 10, gave LAHI the opportunity to embed a gender lens within this initiative. The organisation has over 200 staff; 100 work directly with communities as trainers, and 100-150 people are catalysts who influence the government. The organisation wanted to integrate a gender lens into their programmes and workplace so as to shape the vocational training programme under NEP 2022.
Samya is supporting this initiative by:
- Assessing the level of understanding of gender within LAHI at individual, programmatic level and organisational level.
- Conducting in-person residential ToT with the shortlisted 20-25 individuals.
