Kolkata Sanved (KS) is a women-led pioneer in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) for trauma healing and empowerment of marginalised populations. KS works through a wide network of partners in India and South Asia and uses DMT as a tool for promoting holistic well-being and enhancing the quality of life for survivors of sex-trafficking and other forms of gender-based violence. ‘Sampoornata (fulfilment) DMT for Change’ is their innovative contribution to the fields of mental health, gender equality and livelihood development. In alignment with its mission and values, KS wanted to deepen its gender-responsive approach across programmes, culture, and internal practices and build a robust, practice-based intersectional lens for understanding gender and its implications.

Samya supported the KS team by:

  • Assessing KS’s gender-related understanding, values, culture, and practices.
  • Conducting a Gender Audit across the entire organisation.
  • Identifying gaps and recommending areas of improvement in gender integration.
  • Developing an action plan from the recommendations
