Founded in 2005, The Foundation for Social Transformation (FST) is a non-profit organisation based in Guwahati working to promote community-led solutions that contribute to creating a just, peaceful and equal society. FST is implementing its Ankuran – Young Girl’s Access to Educationproject to reduce gender barriers preventing girls from pursuing higher education. Supported by the Malala Fund, the project is implemented in 10 villages in Barpeta. It promotes young girls as feminist leaders and supports the formation of girls’ collectives to raise awareness about education, the impact of physical and mental harassment, harmful effects of early marriage, and the importance of menstrual health and hygiene etc. The intervention seeks to address entrenched societal norms, engage relevant stakeholders, and advocate for gender-sensitive educational policies.

Samya supported the initiative by:

  • Strengthening the FST team’s existing knowledge and skills to intervene with adolescents, youth and other stakeholders.
  • Developing understanding of stakeholder engagement such as teachers, SMCs, ASHA, Anganwadi workers
  • Facilitating the development of an action plan to deepen their engagement with adolescents, youth, and other stakeholders.
